The Self-Worth Movement
Educating, inspiring and empowering women and girls across the globe to know their worth.
The Self-Worth Movement story
The Self-Worth Movement is a social enterprise committed to raising awareness of the value of self-worth. Our mission is to transform the hearts of women and girls around the world to know who they are, what they stand for and what they want to say.
In times of crisis and of challenge, our internal resources of resilience and hope are what we lean on to get through. The covid-19 pandemic, a time of global adversity, unveiled the need for women to know their self-worth more than ever. What happens when our stores are depleted, when our sense of self-worth feels lost to us?
As a concept, The Self-Worth Movement arose from a poem, She Shines. Our Founder, Farah Mak wrote She Shines as both a love letter and a call to arms. Farah had the vision to turn this poem into a stylised documentary film for many years, knowing in her heart and soul that it would change lives, creating a ripple effect of self-love. She Shines the poem has evolved into She Shines the docu-drama film (currently in develpment) as a powerful resource to educate, inspire and empower women and girls, as well as The Self-Worth Movement, a range of soul-affirming products to help women tap into their internal positive life force and shine like the beautiful radiant diamond that they are!
Meet Farah
What is self-worth? Are we born with it? How do we lose it? How do we rediscover it? These very questions are the inspiration behind The Self-Worth Movement. But first…
I am Farah Mak. I’m an actor, speaker, activist, presenter and writer. I live in beautiful Melbourne with my husband, four children and three fur-babies.
Some would say I am a sparkly, glittery, eternal-optimist and positive change-maker, that I’m someone who sees the world through rose-coloured glasses. I’m told I am a joy to be around, that I lead with strength, grace, and integrity, and that I live a life aligned to my unique talents and gifts, secure in the knowledge of my own innate worth. That’s all true, but it wasn’t always that way.
Self-worth can be eroded by many things; trauma, abandonment, bullying, sickness, grief, financial pressure, stress, anxiety, and so much more. Life can throw obstacles, challenges and adversity at us from every direction- and it does! When self-worth is damaged, we experience imposter syndrome, self-doubt, fear, shame and bitterness. Above all this? It prevents us from becoming who we are, our authentic selves. That’s where I found myself many years ago as a domestic violence survivor.
Self-worth is intrinsic, but can become buried when we don’t take care of it and when our self-belief feels in tatters. My road to self-validation and to rediscover my sense of worth was not easy, I simply can’t deny that, but it was so worth it- as am I! Regaining my self-worth was transformational. It helped me achieve my hopes and dreams, push past my doubts and fears and become my most sparkly self.
Today, I choose faith over fear and live with courage and conviction. I’m on a mission to inspire, empower and educate women and girls worldwide to know who they are, what they stand for and what they want to say.
Bottom line: I want you to be BeYOUtiful and to believe in yourself. You have everything you need within to achieve whatever you put your mind to.
The Self-Worth Movement embodies this philosophy. Our range of premium, deluxe products and tools will help you unleash your incredible power within and enable you to shine your bright light into the world as a positive change-maker. It is a beautiful honour to have you here as a special part of The Self-Worth Movement sparkle squad. Sparkle and shine!
She Shines
By Farah Mak
Her beauty in abundance with a radiant glow
From deep in her soul to the outside it shows
Soft flowing hair and porcelain skin
The depth of her beauty comes from within.
Her spirit it shines as she walks in the room
Her breathtaking beauty like a sweet perfume
Her heart full of love from heaven above.
But she’s been broken down...inside sorrow, her heart frowns.
She knows not of her beauty that everyone sees
When she looks in the mirror she doesn’t believe
How worthy she is of the beautiful love
She deserves to receive, but feels unworthy of.
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder
If only she saw now, not wait till she’s older
For her beauty is true, everlasting and fine
Just one look through God’s eyes, and she’ll see how she shines.
